40 Under 40

So sorry that I’ve been a bit MIA recently. We’ve had plenty of events where pictures were taken, just never posted. I wanted to get back on track right by sharing this past weekend with everyone. To say the least, it was absolutely amazing! It started off Friday evening with J’Burgh’s very own Director, David Katz, being named and honored one of Pittsburgh’s 40 under 40! The evening was a blast and took place at The Children’s Museum.

Check out some of the evening’s pix below.

Enjoy…

uh, guys, i think we’re lost.

October 18th, 2010

This past week has just been gorgeous. It’s by far my favorite time of year when the leaves all turn bright shades of orange, yellow, and red. It’s something about the combination of the crispness of the air, the smell of the leaves, and the taste of a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte that really make me smile.

In the spirit of Fall and the entire month of October, we here at J’Burgh decided that it would be a great idea to pay money to get lost.  In other words, a group of us met up for pizza in Squirrel Hill before we headed off to Greensberg (an hour away) to lose ourselves in the corn maze at Lonesome Valley Farms. It was not only a perfect night temperature wise, it was also pretty close to a beautiful full moon.

Here are some shots of the extra fun Fall evening.

Wendy and Hannah all bundled up!

Nomi and myself (and my halo?!) haha.

All smiles from Ilan, Jonathan, and Michelle!

We found 3 of the 4 hidden hole puncher things! Go us!

Keeping warm by the bonfire! Aaron, Wendy, Nomi, and Ilan.

So as you can most definitely tell, we J’Burghers are having quite a ball this Fall season. Lots of fun events. We hope to see you there next time!

I definitely enjoyed a delicious caramel apple and this place had fried oreo’s too. Kinda awesome.

Happy Fall, all.

color me mine and wine. how wonderfully delightful!

We had a roaring good time (yea, I totally said roaring) last night at the latest J’Burgh program. We all met up at 6pm in Squirrel Hill at the local Color Me Mine to pick out a fun piece of ceramic to paint. I was torn between a nasty looking gargoyle, a giant cupcake cookie jar, and a lovely over sized coffee cup and saucer. Because of the price and the 2 hour time frame, I had to go with the mug. I went to town with the lemon zest paint and the sponging technique. I would definitely call mine a success and I can’t wait to see the finished product next week.

My beautiful creations!

We had a wide variety of different ceramic pieces picked out by the members of J’Burgh and they all turned out amazing. I was rather impressed with the artistic skills of many. Enjoy the pics below!

Take care everyone.

Happy Wednesday!

I am just so thrilled at how well the J’Burgh Book Club turned out last night that I couldn’t wait until Monday to post pictures and talk about it here on the blog. We had a wonderful turnout of J’Burgh members who got together to discuss This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper.  A hilarious story of a family with grown children who return to their childhood home to sit Shiva for their father who had just passed. The book also helps you to realize that your own family is no where near as messed up as you may have once thought.

The discussion was funny, interesting, and insightful.  The food that everyone so graciously brought to share was also way delicious! So I thank everyone that came for the amazing experience. I can’t wait until next meeting where we will be reading one of my faves, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It’s one of the most interesting books I’ve come across where the narrator is actually Death himself.

Here are some lovely pictures from last night of the group in action discussing the book. I also couldn’t resist with the whole group shot at the end of the night.

Enjoy.

Thanks Everyone!

a smashing sukkot.

September 27th, 2010

Hello all again! Happy Monday.

J’Burgh had a pretty exciting weekend! We had our once a month East End Minyan on Friday night in Carolyn’s Sukkah. The food and company was amazing and it was a fun way to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot. Since it was Shabbat as well, I was not able to take any photos of the event but you should trust me when I say it was a good time.

The second event we did was also in the J’Burgh Sukkah at Carolyn’s house. We had a Wine, Cheese, and Cider gathering last night to welcome anyone who might not have had the chance on Friday night to come enjoy the Sukkah as well. Thanks to an abundance of wine and a wide variety of cheeses from Trader Joe’s, the night went off without a hitch.

Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure :)

Enjoying woodchucks and cheese. Sounds good to me.

Shake that lulav and etrog!

Have a great week and more to come next time!!!
